Copyright Infringement for Fun and Profit!
There is a certain website which shall remain nameless lest we give it even more publicity, which features sex and nude scenes (females only, as it’s a sexist site and the owner admits that female bodies rake in more cash for his greedy self) stolen from films and compiled in one place for perverts of the world to enjoy (for a fee, of course).
Some may say, “What’s wrong with dat?” [sic]
Well here’s what’s wrong with “dat,” my friend: taking scenes from films and compiling them into your own archive is called “copyright infringement.” It’s not even covered under “fair use” laws because if the main draw of the film is to see X actress naked or in a sex scene, then offering that (those) scenes in a compilation would devalue the entirety of the film and render it worthless to those viewers, thereby costing money to the company who owns the rights to it.
Fans across the world have created sites in homage to their favorite TV shows and films and many have received C&D letters from company fat cat lawyers insisting on their shutting everything down. (I’m looking at YOU, Paramount.) But it seems that when this one jackass decides that he doesn’t want to sell real estate anymore and just wants to sit around wanking off to movies and then gets this idea that copyright infringement could fuel his depravity and selfishness, the movie companies are all too quick to jump into the sack with him. They see he’s making money off their work and instead of you know, having some integrity or even TRYING to make some lame excuse on the side of “art”, they pull back the sheets and hop in.
So why is it that this one guy gets to steal content from other sources and use it to make himself a profit when so many people who aren’t even trying to turn a profit and who create sites out of sheer admiration or even love are being shut down?
If you ever thought film was about “art”, think again. It’s all about money. People being paid to debase themselves in a myriad of ways for a tidy paycheck, and those who will sit back and take advantage of those people to boot.
Let’s not forget that this guy is married and has young daughters, but he makes his living off the sale of female sexuality. It probably won’t be long til he’s hawking his children on the net and instead of fighting it, the government will hop right in to take their cut. Apparently some people not only get to break the law, but they get to keep their blood money, too.
