Jena 6: WTF happened?
Hello everyone,
Is it just me or has the press stopped talking about the Jena 6?
I wonder what happened? From what little I’ve been able to gather from scouring the web, the media has lost interest in the case with Mychal Bell’s release. The other 5 be damned. Since they were adults at the time of the attack they must be punished.
Apparently I missed these turn of events;
1. On December 3, 2007 Bell pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was given time served. This was done rather quietly since it’s news to me. He also agreed to testify against the others when, and if, they are tried. How quickly they will turn on each other, huh?
2. Four of the other defendants are waiting to be tried.
3. The fifth is in limbo since he was a juvenile and no one knows that to do. I suggest they toss him in jail for a couple years.
4. Two of the defendants got to be guests on BET and received a standing ovation.
5. The victim’s family have filed a lawsuit against his attackers, an additional student named Michael Shaw (brother of defendant Theo Shaw) and the LaSalle Parish School Board.
Seems rather boring without Sharpton there to point fingers and proclaim himself the savior of the black man. Where’s Jesse Jackson, has he left yet? I guess the titillation, uh I mean unjust racial factor of the case is gone and the fickle media have moved to greener pastures. I guess I’ll have to do the same thing, unless something really impressive happens.
I bid adieu,
your Origami reporter,
L.Manly
