The Dragon Lady Election

Hello again,

In the news reports state that Hillary might get the post of Secretary of State in Obama’s administration. First thing;

Obama, yeah, that’s some real change there. Hiring all these former Clintonites and consultants for your new world administration. You’ll get so much change from the same idiots who caused this financial f**k-up which you then used against McCain in the election.

Second thing;

I got to thinking early this morning when I was in bed. The baby was up, kicking at my wife and I trying to wake us up and I had just emerged from a dream that got me thinking how miserable life will be under the Messiah’s rule.

PhotobucketThen it hit me, what would have happened if Hillary “Dragon Lady” Clinton had ran against both McCain and Obama as an independent candidate.

It seems entirely plausible to me.

True the DNC would go ape s**t over such a betrayal, but then again perhaps it would cause a split in the ranks as I would suspect. Loyalty runs deep in their blood and those who supported Hillary hated Obama with a passion. True, they did vote for Obama, but only after Hillary told them to. (I guess Sec of State was the only job opening)

Clinton is also not some independent nut-job like Ralph Nader or weaselly little gnome like Ross Perot. She’s a senator, a former First Lady, she’s been on the political scene for decades and has serious credentials.

Fund raising would also be a simple matter for her, even if she was not allowed access to the DNC’s coffers. I see it as entirely plausible for Hillary to have been an independent, not unlike Senator Lieberman. Only on a grander scale.

After McCain got the nomination he seemed to be having fun going after them both. We know what was on his mind, he was looking for a street fight and wanted to scrap. Sad thing; Hillary’s supporters felt alienated by all the attacks on Obama, their candidate was being ignored. A patehtic whiney display on their part.

On the other hand Obama’s people were like; “Yeah, the old war hero, thirty year experienced senator and real presidential candidate is giving us the clout we need to blackmail more super-delegates.”

With all the controversies surrounding Obama you have to think that the “super’s” were nervous there for a second. But of course with the liberal dominated media suppressing every negative thing about Obama to the general public…

Well it’s over. Obama has won, the country will be going down the tubes and Hillary may or may not get a place in his cabinet.

But I, for my own amusement, propose an alternate take on the Election of 2008. The science fiction writer in me wants to hypothesize on a parallel course for this country’s future.

The formula on which I based this election timeline, the failures and successes of the candidates and the general outcome is simple;

  1. I analyzed the actual number of votes during election day.
  2. The states won in the primaries by the three candidates.
  3. A little guess work. McCain was 4th in Alaska, but Palin won it for him.

Now that that’s over, shall we step through the looking glass? Imagine if you will…

FEBRUARY 2007 - JUNE 2008

The Democratic Primaries begin. Frontrunner Senator Hillary Clinton watches as her lead slowly whittles away. Coming in third in several of the first contests, she makes a great comeback. As several others drop out, Senator Barack Obama comes from behind to show himself an actual threat.

Despite all efforts to win against Obama, super-delegates continue to defect away from the Clinton Camp. Barack Obama achieves the necessary majority on June 3, 2008.

Hillary Clinton informs the press that she will make an announcement on June 7, 2008. Unlike what happened in our timeline, this address is slightly different. Filled with bravado and unable to convince Obama to choose her as his running mate, Clinton makes one final gamble.

Hillary Clinton announces on the aforementioned date that instead of suspending or conceding to Obama, Clinton will in fact continue her campaign as an independent, but still under the flag of Liberal ideals.

The Republican party see this as a great boost to their candidate, the Liberals become livid and factions begin to form. Reverends Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson immediately hit the airwaves to decry this action by the “white woman.”

Despite threats of a great schism within the Liberal Party, and an impassioned plea from DNC Chairman Howard Dean, Hillary remains unchanged by this course of action and the election begins.

JULY 2008 - NOVEMBER 2008

McCain attacks both sides for a time but this strategy is not effective, his campaign begins to suffer. Hillary is quickly on the defensive by remarks of traitor from elements of her own party. Obama refusing to use public funds for his campaign efforts becomes an issue for her to attack with.

Obama almost selects John Edwards to be his running mate, but a sex scandal curtails any chance of Edwards becoming the VP.

Instead Obama gives the slot to Senator Joseph Biden, despite past arguments Biden has made about Obama’s lack of experience during the primary when they ran opposed.

Hillary Clinton selects former Liberal party member and current independent Sen. Joe Lieberman as her running mate. A cunning choice many note.

The Democratic convention is chaotic when supporters of Hillary Clinton demand that she be recognized.

A general boycott results in several states and their delegates refusing to concede the nomination to Obama or give their support.

Several conservative commentators, including Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh enjoy the spectacle.

McCain selects his running mate to be Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to offset the Hillary factor. Many in both parties see this as an act of desperation, especially regarding Palin’s lack of experience.

Despite the landfall of Hurricane Ike, the Republican convention runs more smoothly and Palin’s first speech is a great success by most standards. Liberals immediately go after Palin for her charismatic personality and the resurgence she gives to the McCain campaign.

The election continues.

As where McCain refuses to play hard ball against Obama’s questionable past and associates, Hillary goes on the offensive and continues to hammer against his formidable base of support. Likewise her attacks on Palin serves to show her in-experience for the job, similar to Obama’s.

Obama’s camp backs off Palin knowing such an attack opens them up to the same criticism.

With a well calculated plan of attack, using the Internet in new ways, Clinton drives into the minds of voters of the questionable ethics of Obama, his connections to controversial figures such as Bill Ayers, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and convicted slum lord Tony Rezko.

Hillary becomes less of a target by the Conservatives in hopes that her campaign successes will steal votes from Obama.

Having to divide their endorsements between two possible candidates, the liberal media finally begins to focus scathing attacks on Obama, in light of Hillary’s coordinated effort against the junior Senator from Illinois.

Foot in mouth moments for Biden and Palin give reasons for attack by their opponents. Sen. Lieberman is more eloquent and Hillary’s campaign does not suffer, gaining more support and momentum.

Obama’s talk about “spreading the wealth” and socialist views finally have McCain getting more vigorous in his attacks against the Senator. Hillary as well manages to convince numerous Liberals that they are rich too and she gains more support.

Polls see no clear winner. Obama has a slight lead over Hillary, with McCain running a close third. The final days close in on the election of 2008.

November 4th arrives. The people vote and with baited breath watch the returns. It is announced at 11:23 pm EST.

The winner is… HILLARY CLINTON!

THE OUTCOME

To my actual surprise and shock as I used the interactive electoral map, The Dragon Lady came out on top for the same reasons one might think. She used the system to her advantage. The final electoral count turned out to be;

So there you have it, in this alternate take on history, in some Issac Asimov-Ray Bradbury-Harlan Ellison parallel dimension, Hillary Rodham Clinton is our new President-Elect. The White House awaits her and a job I believe she’s lived her whole life for.

John McCain and Sarah Palin return to their respective posts, licking their wounds and discussing what went wrong. The Democrats are more fractured and the party is rife with tension. Senators Obama and Biden return to an unwelcome and unfriendly senate.

African-Americans feel cheated and incidents of rioting and retaliatory actions cross the country for a time. A rift in race relations widen yet again.

With a Clinton returning to the White House, reports of voter fraud and misappropriation of funds in regards to groups like ACORN are ignored and eventually swept under the rug by a sympathetic media.

The Republicans are shook up, they’ve lost a number of seats to a financial scandal not of their making, but they anxiously await 2012 when Clinton will be up for re-election. They hope that she will fail in providing the relief for this country.

My analysis and formal report on this startling event will be forthcoming.

I bid adieu,

your Origami reporter,
L.Manly
