The First Lady, Rest in Peace
Hello Everyone,
I’m back with a little piece about a nice lady whom I did meet once while on a Star Trek cruise.
First, I’m not a hard core Trekkie, merely a guy who was able to put up with a boat load for economical factors (cheaper then a regular cruise) and second, I don’t attest to knowing Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, we merely talked and gambled together for one night.
I’m sad to say that Mrs. Roddenberry, the First Lady of Star Trek and widow of series creator Gene passed away on December 18, 2008. I barely knew her, met her only once and so I’m not going to write any further. I found this article on the web today and I’m as sad as anyone else who cared.
LOS ANGELES - Funeral services were held for Majel Barrett Roddenberry, “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry’s widow who played Nurse Christine Chapel in the original sci-fi TV series.
Friends, family and Trekkies were among more than 250 people who attended the funeral Sunday at a Los Angeles cemetery. Roddenberry died of leukemia at her Bel-Air home Dec. 18. She was 76.
Among the mourners were “Star Trek” stars Nichelle Nichols, George Takei and Walter Koenig.
Three people wore Star Fleet Academy formal tunics, and many others sported “Star Trek” rings, pins or medallions.
Roddenberry was involved in the “Star Trek” universe for more than four decades. She played the dark-haired Number One in the original pilot, but metamorphosed into the blond, miniskirted Nurse Chapel in the 1966-69 TV series. She had smaller roles in all the show’s TV successors.
I met the woman only once and she seemed very nice. She recouped my $5.00 loss in blackjack when I acquired the seat next to her and picked up a bad card for her.
That’s all I can say,
I bid adieu,
your Origami reporter,
L.Manly
