The Gentleman Non-Senator
Hello again,
Things are getting real good and it’s barely a week into the new year. 2009 is shaping to be a great year for mocking, hating and genuinely wishing the deaths of every politician involved in American politics.
A side story to the corrupt and nasty Blagojevich is that he had the gall to give the tainted senate seat to someone, and that someone is named Burris.
Here are the stats about the man as provided by Wikipedia;
Roland Wallace Burris (born August 3, 1937) is an American politician and former statewide officer in the U.S. State of Illinois. Burris served as Comptroller of Illinois from 1979 to 1991 and as Attorney General of Illinois from 1991 to 1995.
So now that you’re caught up…
Burris was was appointed by embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) in a typical “f**k-you” move against his accusers. Roddy real needs a serious a** beating for his behaviour. So what with the scandal, Roddy’s attempts to sell the seat, everyone and their mother saying if he dares to appoint someone will have them killed and what not, you’d think no one would accept a job offer from that man.
Burris is not that kind of person, he’s too stupid and so despite being told to stay away he has to make a big show of going to the Senate to sit with the others. Taking a book from the Jesse Jackson-Al Sharpton playbook, Burris knew he was going to be turned away and so upon the aforementioned event stood outside the Capitol yesterday and declared: “Members of the media, my name is Roland Burris, the junior senator from the state of Illinois.”
Instead of doing what Senators do; lie, steal, cheat, Burris was holding a news conference on the lawn outside the Capitol. Among his many cards played that day, was of course the RACE CARD.
Some guy named Don Rose was quoted as saying, “He thinks he’s got a shot, and he’s an ambitious guy with a large ego,” he’s a political consultant in Chicago. “I’m not sure that separates him from anybody in the Senate. . . . He’s paid a lot of dues, and he may feel he’s paid his dues.”
Rose is right in that Burris definitely fits in with the rest of them.
In this contest of wills, the Democrats are already flinching, supposedly the race card works well. Afraid that they’ll alienate black voters, they most likely will cow down to this man. Despite the fact that the current President-Elect is back, or sort of black at least.
Either that or they really want the seat to fall into the Dem’s category. But since it’s doubtful that a Republican will be nominated, why allow this man to force his way in?
This next part gets a little scary;
The Congressional Black Caucus, meanwhile, will hold internal discussions about whether it should put its weight behind Burris’s bid to be seated. Two of the most prominent African Americans in the House — Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), who had aspired to the Senate seat, and Majority Whip James E. Clayburn (D-S.C.) — both said yesterday that they think the law stands behind Burris, who would replace Obama as the only African American member of the Senate.
Despite being selected by Blagojevich, who is under investigation on corruption charges that include allegations that he sought to sell Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder, Burris has said in recent days that he will accept no compromise that would limit his rights as a senator. He called his appointment “what the Lord has ordained,” and his visit to the Capitol suggested Burris would let nothing stop him from adding “U.S. senator” to the list of accomplishments on his mausoleum in Chicago.
Wow, that guy sounds worse than Obama. And it doesn’t get any better.
Denied what he believed was his rightful place, Burris headed to the third-floor office of Nancy Erickson, the Senate secretary. After a 20-minute meeting with Erickson, who was appointed this week by the same Senate Democratic leaders opposing his selection, Burris calmly walked out of the Capitol, speaking for fewer than 30 seconds before deferring to attorney Timothy Wright. The Senate, Burris told reporters, had rejected his request to be seated because the Illinois secretary of state has refused to sign his certificate of appointment, a decision Burris is contesting in the Illinois Supreme Court.
“I am not seeking to have any type of confrontation,” the Chicago lobbyist said softly. “I will now consult with my attorneys, and we will determine what our next step will be.”
Well the attorneys are coming out. Nowadays it seems the first thing we do is call a lawyer. Order at the drive-through at McDonald’s and when you’re asked, “How can I help you,” you call your lawyer. Mind you a lawyer is quite helpful when you are having your rights violated or something is stolen.
Like a Senate seat from Minnesota maybe… But come on Burris, get real. And it just keeps getting worse and worse. The next piece is really scary. Mr. Rose was right, this dude has an ego.
“People said I was either crazy or divinely directed. I accept the latter,” he told the Chicago Sun-Times during one of his runs for governor. “I believe without a doubt that I am predestined to be a role model.”
And why should this guy be a role model? He’s not much to look at, professionally. From what I’ve read, Burris ran for the U.S. Senate, Chicago mayor and count them, three times for governor, but he did not win the Democratic primary in any of those races.
He’s the black Fredo.
“He’s not a vigorous politician,” Rose said. “He’s almost anti-charismatic.”
Basically this guy is a dud, he under performs in his work, has failed to achieve the greatness he so badly wants and despite the backing of people like Obama and the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, never wins.
Essentially Burris is a f**k-up, refuses to see the writing on the wall and admittedly blames “whitey” for his failures which really has my goat upset.
Burris also seems delusional in that after each failure he’d just dust himself off and get ready for his next a**-whopping. It wasn’t until his primary defeat in 2002, that Burris finally called it quits and begin riding the coat tails of his betters, in particular Mr. Obama.
He humbly stated last year, “I’d say if there hadn’t been a Roland Burris, there would not have been a Carol Braun or a Barack Obama. I had to lay the groundwork . . . to perform in a high, statewide office.”
Funny that I never heard of this guy at all. I can think of two words to describe him, Small Fry.
And seeing an opening, and needing a plaque for his final resting place, Burris played his final card. I suspect that he’ll win, but not because of talent or skill. History has written he’s not qualified there, he’ll just pay the race card again.
It’s the only card he has.
I bid adieu,
your Origami reporter,
